Simu Liu’s workout plan is structured in a way that allows him to train all parts of his body, it is not only about building big muscles but also about keeping his cardiovascular conditioning in check.

In order to act as a superhero Shang-Chi, Simu had to train like one, even though he has some basic knowledge about martial arts and gymnastics, he had to put on some lean muscle mass to bring out the character well. 

Simu Liu also had to make sure that in the process of building muscle mass he has to keep his speed, mobility, and explosiveness in check. So he had to follow a workout routine that not only help him put on muscle mass but also keep his body slim and athletic.

In order to achieve that goal he workout under the supervision of a celebrity trainer Bart Kwen, who designed Simu a workout program that consisted of weight training, martial arts, and functional training.

Monday- Upper Body

  • Flat bench press- 3 sets of 15, 12, and 8 reps
  • Overhead press- 3 sets of 15, 12, and 8 reps
  • Barbell rows- 3 sets of 15, 12, and 8 reps
  • Lat pulldowns- 3 sets of 12 reps
  • Lateral raises- 3 sets of 12 reps
  • Barbell shrugs- 3 sets of 12-15 reps
  • Dumbbell curls- 3 sets of 10-12 reps
  • Skull crushers- 3 sets of 10-12 reps

Tuesday- Lower body

  • Jump squats- 3 sets of 10 reps
  • Squats- 3 sets of 15, 12, and 8 reps
  • Leg press- 3 sets of 10-12 reps
  • Lunges- 3 sets of 12 reps on each leg
  • Leg curls- 3 sets of 15 reps
  • Calf raises- 3 sets of 18-20 reps
  • Hip abduction- 3 sets of 12 reps

Wednesday- Core

  • Crunches- 4 sets of 25 reps
  • Russian twists- 3 sets of 15 reps on each side
  • Leg raises- 3 sets of 15 reps
  • Scissor kicks- 2 sets of 60 seconds
  • Plank holds- 3 sets of 60 seconds
  • Battle ropes- 2 sets of 120 seconds

Thursday- Upper body

  • Incline bench press- 3 sets of 15, 12, and 8 reps
  • Arnold press- 3 sets of 12 reps
  • T-bar rows- 3 sets of 15, 12, and 8 reps
  • Cable rows- 3 sets of 12 reps
  • Cable crossovers- 3 sets of 12 reps
  • Dumbbell shrugs- 3 sets of 15 reps
  • Hammer curls- 3 sets of 12 reps
  • Tricep pushdowns- 3 sets of 12 reps

Friday- Lower body

  • Air squats- 3 sets of 20 reps
  • Squats- 3 sets of 15, 12, and 8 reps
  • Leg extensions- 3 sets of 15 reps
  • Hack squats- 3 sets of 10-12 res
  • Standing calf raises- 3 sets of 20 reps
  • Glute thrusters- 3 sets of 12 reps

Saturday- Core

  • Bicycle crunches- 3 sets of 20 reps
  • Lying leg raises- 3 sets of 15 reps
  • Russian twists- 3 sets of 15 reps on each side
  • Side plank- 2 sets of 60 seconds on each side
  • V-hold- 2 sets of 60 seconds
  • Battle ropes- 2 sets of 120 seconds

Sunday- Rest

Before starting these intense workouts Simu makes sure that he gets a well-structured warm-up, he performs some stretches and cardio exercises as his warm-up.

Apart from weight lifting and cardio Simu also performed HIIT in some of his training sessions and this enables him to get that superhero body that was admired by all his Marvel fans.

When Simu Liu starred in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, his physique spoke volumes about his healthy eating habits. In order for one to build a muscular and lean body, he/she has to focus on a healthy and nutritious diet plan.

Simu Liu’s diet plan consisted of foods high in protein and a moderate portion of fats and carbs.
